England clean up Pakistan
July 27th 2006 03:09
Well what a disappointing start to the second test between England and Pakistan after a brilliant opening match at Lords. The Old Trafford test is shaping up to be a one-sided affair as the Poms rolled the Pakistanis for a measly 119 all thanks to some thunderous bowling by opening bowler Steve Harmison who notched up his best figures ever, finishing with an astounding 6-19 from his 13 overs. The Pakistanis looked shaky with the bat, with Younis Khan (44), Mohammed Yousef (38) and Shahid Afridi (15) the only batsmen to make double figures.
In reply, England comfortably surpassed the visitor's mediocre total, ending the day on 2-168 with Cook (65*) and Pieterson (38*) looking at home at the crease, and another good day for batting tomorrow only means a regretful first day for the Pakistanis and a long day in the field tomorrow morning.
