Once again, South African test cricket has managed to dish up a rather dull test match, which totally contrasted the thrilling first test. New Zealand kicked off proceedings in the first innings and scored a mammoth 8/593, mainly due to a match turning 262 by captain Stephen Fleming, who was well accompanied by his number 10 batsmen in James Franklin (122*), who is the second number 10 to score a century in the last month! Nathan Astle was the only other batsmen to post a decent score (50), before being trapped in front by innings' best bowler Ntini who ended the innings with figures of 4/162 from a long 43 overs.
In reply, the home side posted an equally stunning total, finishing their innings on 512, with batsmen Ashwell Prince (108*) and new comer Hashim Amla (who sports a very seedy beard) left short of 150, being dismissed by Daniel Vettori on 149. Despite saving the side, both Amla and Prince overshadowed the South African middle order collapse with five out of the last six batsmen failing to score more than 15 runs.
However, in spite of the huge totals of runs, batting has over-dominated the game, with New Zealand only beginning their 2nd innings in today's final day of play, the match is heading for an inevitable and boring draw.
