Pietersen cleared to play
June 30th 2006 09:45
English star batsman Kevin Pietersen received some positive news concerning his knee injury which has been bothering him for the last couple of days. Being struck by nasty deliver by Fareez Maharoof in the one-dayer at Chester-le-street only seemed to worsen the injury which he received in the second match of the series at The Oval. Despite hobbling around on both occassions, and only managing to field in the slips or the boundaries, Pietersen found himself in a spot of bother and was likely to be the next amongst England's already extended list of injured star players which include Flintoff, Giles, Jones, Vaughan (who has been already ruled out of the upcoming Ashes campaign) and fast bolwer Anderson.
Fortunately for Pietersen recent scans on the his knee indicate no fracture or serious damage to the patella bone/knee joint and will be deemed fit to play for the rest of the series against a very confident Sri Lankan side who are dominating the 5 match series 4-0.
It looks like the English are in for a rough ride ahead as they attempt to salvage some pride at Headingly on Saturday.
