Should the Aussies be worried?
April 27th 2006 13:50
Does Ponting's recent concerns over the several batting collapses his side has had to suffer, raise any doubts over the form of the Australian side? Losing 3/10 and 3/13 in the respective one-day matches, one must wonder if that is acceptable for the world champion nation. Despite winning both games in Bangladesh (with still one to play tomorrow afternoon) relatively easily, it has been a crucial partnership between 2 batsmen which have cemented victory for the Aussies - rather than a consistent team effort. Fortunately, the quality of the Bangladeshi one-day squad is definitely not at a high international standard as of other international sides, therefore the Aussies perhaps got an easy escape out of jail, but if such collapses continue to occur against world-class sides such as India, England, New Zealand, etc, I think the Aussies will find themselves being steamrolled on many occassions.
Ultimately, with the World Cup fast approaching, the Australians must rectifiy their currently small problem, before it comes a disastrous habit. So you may wonder... What can we do?
Well that's a question the Australian batsmen can answer.
