Symonds to undergo surgery
May 31st 2006 12:39
With the cricket season well and truly over for the Aussies at the moment, players are beginning to relax and recouperate after a long gruelling Summer, which started off by losing the Ashes. We've seen the likes of Ponting prancing around Europe not long ago, celebrating the Sportspeople Award, but for freakish all-rounder Andrew Symonds - it's straight under the knife for some needy surgery on his wrist. Apart from the one obvious joke that can be made about the injury (no details required), Symonds' injury originated from a tear in cartilage that lines the wrist bone. The extended number of games has taken a toll on the minor injury causing it to become inflammed and sore, and thus Symonds has taken the chance to repair this niggling injury before the commencement of next Summer. It goes to show how much of a trooper Symonds is.
Meanwhile, the West Indies have sealed their 5-match one day series against visitors India, 4-1. It was a fitting victory for captain Brian Lara who farewelled the Trinidad crowd, as he will retire before returning to play another one-day series in the Carribean.
