Windies level series over India with a nail-biter
May 23rd 2006 07:17
The West Indies escaped losing their second one-dayer with an enthralling 1 run win over visitors India. Batting first, the Windies managed to notch up a very moderate total of 9/198 from their full 50 overs, with Sarwan the only batsman to shine, with a deserved 98 not out. Pathan was the best out of a strong bowling performance by the Indians, finishing with tidy figures of 3/45 from 9 overs, accompanied by Ramesh Power who took 2/38 from his complete 10 overs.
With 198 seeming to be an ordinary total to defend, the Windies come out with all guns blazing, a ploy which payed off when they had the visitors floundering at 4/60 at one stage, after an Indian top order collapse. Fortunately, Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina teamed up to post a 64 run partnership to bring the Indians back into the game. Singh batted on throughout the innings as the anchor, and placed the Indians in a very winnable position, however, he was caught out on 93 - leaving the Indians just 2 runs short of victory. Bradshaw was the best of the West Indian bowlers with a respectable 3/33 from 10 overs, and was well supported by Taylor and Samuels who both chimed in with 2 wickets a piece.
The third one-dayer will played today at St. Kitts.
